Bialik seeks a Director of Student Services to join our administrative team.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Student Services (DSS) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing support services that enhance student success in both Jewish and General Studies. The DSS will work to ensure that Bialik students, including those with diverse learning needs, receive the academic, social-emotional and behavioural support necessary to thrive in a dual-curriculum environment.
Key Responsibilities
The DSS will work closely with Bialik’s Head of School, Branch Principals and Director of Teaching and Learning to provide overall educational leadership for the school. In addition, either directly, or through the supervision of Deans of Student Services at each of Bialik’s two Branches, the DSS will have the following responsibilities:
Academic Support & Intervention
● Develop and oversee academic intervention programs for students requiring additional support in General and Jewish Studies.
● Collaborate with teachers to implement differentiated instruction strategies, including extensions for those students needing additional challenges.
● Coordinate support plans for students with diverse learning needs.
● Ensure assessments and data-driven interventions are used to monitor student progress.
● Work with teachers within the Response to Intervention Model (RTI), to approach their classroom instruction with an emphasis on meeting the individual needs of every learner.
Social-Emotional & Behavioural Support
In collaboration with Branch Administrators:
● Develop programs that promote students' social-emotional well-being, integrating Jewish values with best practices in student development.
● Oversee behaviour management strategies and work with staff to implement positive behaviour interventions.
● Coordinate support services for students experiencing challenges related to mental health, social challenges, or school transitions.
Collaboration & Professional Development
● Work closely with Jewish Studies and General Studies faculty to facilitate a collaborative approach to creating a supportive learning environment for all learners.
● Offer professional development for teachers on topics such as differentiated instruction, classroom management, and inclusive teaching practices.Support Deans of Student Services with offering similar professional development.
● Serve as a liaison between teachers, parents, and external specialists (e.g. psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists).
Student & Family Engagement
● Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and available support services.
● Organize workshops and resources to educate families about student learning needs and strategies for home support.
● Foster a school culture of inclusion and respect for diverse learners.
Compliance & Administration
● Ensure compliance with educational regulations regarding student services.
● Support Teachers in maintaining accurate records of student interventions and progress.
● Oversee the school's accommodation and special education policies in alignment with best practices, Ontario Ministry of Education Special Education docs/policies and Jewish values.
Qualifications & Skills
Required
● Experience in student support services, preferably in a Jewish day school or dual-curriculum setting
● Strong understanding of educational accommodations and intervention strategies
● Familiarity with Jewish education, values, and traditions
● Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
● Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and outside professionals
Preferred
● Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, Psychology or a related field
● Experience with social-emotional learning (SEL) and behaviour-management frameworks
● Understanding of Responsive Classroom principles and their application in a dual-curriculum setting
● Familiarity with Hebrew language instruction and its role in Jewish Studies education (Hebrew proficiency is considered an asset.)
● Knowledge of neurodiverse learning needs and inclusive educational practices
