Bialik Hebrew Day School seeks a passionate and knowledgeable Jewish Studies Music Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both Jewish Studies and music education, with the ability to create an engaging learning environment. This role involves teaching students about Jewish culture, history and traditions through music, fostering a love for Jewish music and enhancing students’ musical skills.
This is a part-time/half-time (12-15 hours per week) position, located at our Viewmount Branch in midtown Toronto.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction
- Teach Jewish music, including traditional and contemporary songs in multiple languages and musical pieces with a focus on Shabbat, holidays and Israel
- Use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities
- Encourage student participation
Class Performances
- Support classroom teacher with the teaching of songs for class performances
- Provide additional time for teaching and learning of new songs
- Accompany the class on the day of the performance
Classroom Management
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters respect and a love for learning
- Manage classroom behaviour in accordance with school policies
Skills and Experience
- Five years teaching music, preferably in a school environment
- Fluency in Hebrew and English
- Able to read and transcribe music
- Comfortable singing in front of a class
- Able to play an instrument (piano or guitar preferred)
