Clubs and Athletics

Athletics

Bialik makes physical activity an important part of school life and sports are integral to the educational experience of our Elementary and Senior Division students.

We have  a large number of teams that compete in the JDSSL (Jewish Day Schools Sports League) with other schools, including Girls and Boys Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Hockey, Softball, Baseball and Cross Country.

Bialik also has a strong intramural sports program. Students in Grades 3-8 have the opportunity to participate in intramural house leagues. In the Senior Division, Houses compete against each other and accrue points towards the total for the year.

We take great pride in our sports programs, both extra-curricular and intramural. These programs, combined with our expanded outdoor play areas and our state-of-the-art gym facilities, provide a physical education program that more than meets the needs of our students.

Beyond the classroom, getting involved in clubs enriches our students' school life.

Students have the opportunity to participate in many co- and extra-curricular activities, where they learn the joy of working towards a common goal with their group or team.

Choir

From Grade 3 onward, students sing joyfully in our choir, at both branches. The choir performs at school celebrations and citywide events and has appeared at Queen’s Park and at community Holocaust commemoration ceremonies. Each year, members of the choir are excited to participate in Zimriyah — Toronto Jewish Schools’ annual choral festival organized by the UJA.

Dance

From Grades 4-8, students can develop their artistic abilities, rhythm, poise and teamwork by joining the Bialik dance group. Students enjoy the fun practices leading up to performances at school and community events, with the annual citywide Rikudiyah being the highlight of the year.

Bible Contest

The Bible Contest is a national program open to students in Grades 5-8. Our students devote many hours preparing for the contests and take great pride in their expansive knowledge of the Bible. This culminates in the annual Chidon HaTanach competition, where students compete against other Jewish schools across Canada. Bialik is proud of all the effort our students have put into learning the Bible and the great success they have had over the years.

Debate Club

Senior Division students learn important research and presentation skills that allow them to develop persuasive arguments on a variety of resolutions that impact their daily lives. Each year, Bialik students participate in a city-wide Jewish day school tournament where they engage in friendly competition with other students.

Bridge Building Club

Students practice applying their science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills to experiment with different design and construction techniques to build the strongest bridge out of popsicle sticks and wire. This hands-on club culminates at the Gesher Chair Bridge Building Competition, together with teams from six Toronto Jewish Day Schools and partner schools in Eilat, Israel.

Caribou Math Contest

From Grade 3, students are invited to participate in the Canadian Caribou Math Contest, providing additional extension opportunities that complement the math curriculum. Our contestants work hard with faculty to prepare and we are thrilled that many of our participants have achieved first, second and third place standings for their age group in Canada.

Farm Club

Working with our school’s resident farmer, Elementary Division students participate in learning and hands-on activities that promote sustainable and environmental practices in and around school. Not only do these club participants enjoy getting their hands dirty, they are ensuring the future viability of our planet, as well as the beautification of our school.

After 4

Students find a myriad ways to express themselves, learn new skills and have a lot of fun at our After 4 extra-curricular programs. Friendships are formed as students take part in activities such as basketball, tennis, multi-sport,  acro/gymnastics and dance. Some of the other exciting programs include chess, cooking, 3D design, LEGO Robotics and pottery.

After 4 programs are offered at both branches and our specialized vendors ensure a high quality of activities each season.
