BIALIK NORTH OPENS AN ADDITIONAL GRADE 1 CLASS
York Region, ON: Bialik Hebrew Day School’s Himel Branch will open an additional Grade 1 class for the 2019-20 school year.
“We couldn’t be more proud and excited,” says Benjamin Cohen, Bialik’s Head of School. “This year we had a full cohort and multiple families on the waiting list for Senior Kindergarten, but had absolutely nowhere to put an additional class. However, our soon-to-be-completed expansion will allow us the space to open the third Grade 1 class. We are fully expecting 60 or more Grade 1 students by September 2019.”
Bialik’s Ben and Edith Himel Education Centre opened on the Joseph and Wolf Lebovic Jewish Community Campus in 2013 with 67 students in Junior and Senior Kindergarten and Grade 1. In six years the branch has grown to over 280 students, and enrolment is projected to continue to rise. In a climate that has seen a number of day school branches close in the north, Bialik continues to thrive.
“The Bialik brand of Jewish education resonates with the growing Jewish community in York Region,” says Cohen. “Families in the north want quality Jewish education that reflects their identity. We are honoured and thrilled that they continue to partner with us.”
Bialik Hebrew Day School is a thriving K-8 Jewish day school educating over 1,100 students in two branches in the GTA, located in Vaughan and in midtown Toronto. Bialik’s success has been built on a program that features a uniquely relevant Jewish mission and uncompromising academic excellence.
