Bialik Hebrew Day School seeks an energetic and enthusiastic Full-Time Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic educational team. The successful candidate will assist with day-to-day classroom coverage in JK to Grade 2. Teaching Assistants are responsible for students' care and learning under the direction of the classroom teacher. This role requires a passion for early childhood education and a commitment to fostering a nurturing and stimulating learning environment.
This is a full-time position and is located at our Viewmount Branch in mid-town Toronto.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support
- Be prepared to follow up full-class lessons by working with a small group of students or individual students;
- Help to focus students’ attention to ensure appropriate comprehension and task-completion.
- Direct parent inquiries about a student’s progress to the teacher; and report any observations about a child to the teacher who will address concerns with the parent.
Classroom Management
- Create a positive, safe classroom environment that promotes respect and cooperation.
- Apply discipline consistent with the teacher’s approach under the direction of the teacher;
- Manage classroom behaviour in accordance with school policies.
- Be attentive to the safety of the children at all times;
Communication and Collaboration
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, fellow teachers and administration.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the overall educational experience.
Instruction
- Check emails daily for directions from the vice principal or other members of the administration;
- Help supervise transitions/activities such as lining up, snack time, lunch time, recess, dismissal and entry, book bags, etc.;
- Assume responsibility to supervise the class when the teacher is not present for whatever reason, or is busy with an individual child, parent or another staff member;
- Show in initiative in keeping classroom furnishings and supplies clean and in good order.
- Help prepare materials for classroom assignment and activities.
- Foster a love for learning through creative and interactive activities.
Qualifications
- OCT or ECE or equivalent is considered an asset
Skills and Experience
- Experience working with children in a school setting is required
- Ability to speak Hebrew is an asset, but not required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Enthusiasm about play-based learning and early childhood education
- Energetic and passionate about fostering a love for learning in young children
