Jewish Values & Menschlechkeit
At Bialik, we seek to teach our students the values that will serve them well as future leaders in the Jewish community and wider Canadian society.
Our character education program focuses on values such as honesty, cooperation, respect, courage, responsibility, and empathy through both traditional academic and experiential learning. This program provides our students with a common vocabulary that helps to define our community as one in which good character is paramount.
Our regular focus on Tzedakah helps our students understand the value of giving back, while providing opportunities for students in all grades to get involved on a personal level in each project. Our student council, lead by senior division students, coordinates annual campaigns that raise funds and awareness for causes selected by students. School wide initiatives include Jump Rope for Heart in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the MS Readathon, and Na’amat’s Dollars for David campaign. We believe that by showing students that philanthropy is about not only what you can give, but also about what you can do, they will quickly become ‘mensches’ in their own right.
We take great pride in our environmental education program and in being a Gold Certified Eco School. From ‘Walk to School’ days to school gardens, students at Bialik have made green living an integral part of their lives, and an important part of our Tikkun Olam program.
