Does Bialik follow Ministry guidelines?

Bialik's General Studies program follows the guidelines and expectations established by the Ontario Ministry of Education. We have developed our own stringent requirements for our Jewish Studies curriculum.

How much homework do students receive?

Homework is assigned to support the learning, not for its own sake. In the Elementary Division, Bialik's homework guidelines are as follows:

  • Grades 1-3: 15 minutes English, 15 minutes Hebrew homework.
  • Grades 4-5: 30 minutes English, 30 minutes Hebrew homework.
  • Grades 6-8: 15 minutes per subject; major projects, 2 weeks notice.
Students from grade 2 onward are provided with agendas to record homework and assignments.

What if my child is struggling to keep up with the curriculum?

Bialik is proactive and sensitive to students' individual needs. Our teaching staff is available to lend a helping hand to students who may be having some difficulty with the course material. If students require further assistance, various additional types of support are available within the school.

How do students get enough physical education in Bialik's dual-language program?

Students have two periods of physical education per week. There are also many opportunities for students to participate in physical activities throughout the school year such as: lunch time house leagues and a variety of extra-curricular sports teams. These include basketball, volleyball, hockey and cross-country at various times during the year. As well, the PTA's After 4 program offers sports-related programming.

I respect faith, but doubt is what gets you an education.
