Mechanech Program

The Mechanech program is an integral part of each class in our Senior Division. Mechanchim are much more than homeroom teachers. They have undergone specialized training, allowing them to act as mentors, advisors and role models. Mechanchim mediate between the students and other subject teachers, and act as liaisons between the school and the parents. They enhance class cohesiveness and introduce topics and values pertinent to Jewish-Canadian culture. The Mechanchim conduct weekly informal lessons dedicated to specific issues, they hold 'office hours' for their students and communicate with staff and parents on matters pertaining to the students' academic, social and emotional well-being.

Mechanchim introduce their program to parents during the Senior Division Curriculum Night in September. This is a great opportunity for parents to meet the person who will be the liaison between their child, the classroom and other staff in the Senior Division. Parents are always encouraged to inform their child's Mechanech about important family or other changes that may impact on their child's learning. Conversely, the Mechanech keeps parents informed of developments and obstacles in the child's progress, behaviour and social adjustment.

Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.
